Modern Leather Wallet

A designed and handmade a leather wallet for my brother. My goal was to explore unique methods of constructing the leather to limit the visible stitching as much as possible. I worked in Illustrator to ideate and develop the concept before moving into paper, and then EVA Foam mockups. I then constructed the final wallet in leather. This construction included cutting, skiving, dyeing, gluing, and stitching the leather entirely by hand.

I emphasized folds to create layering and to finish the edges of the leather. To ensure that these folds did not become bulky I skived the leather down to be much thinner in specific locations. To emphasize that this wallet was constructed of only a few separate pieces of leather, I dyed the outer and inner layers different colors. The final touch was to add a pull tab to help in accessing those least used cards in one of the bottom most pockets.
